Jeyalakshmi

If you educate a man, you educate an individual. But if you educate a woman, you educate a nation. Even though this is an old adage, no one can refuse this.

I am R.Jeyalakshmi, Assistant Professor of English, working for R.M.K.Engineering College, Chennai, which is one of the most reputed colleges in Tamilnadu; India.

Take a limitation and turn it into an opportunity. Take an opportunity and turn it into an adventure by dreaming big! Yeah, I too had a dream. It is indeed my pride and pleasure to thank Nia and also to share my own experience, at this juncture.

My journey from V.V.V.College to RMKEC is a dream come true. After completing my undergraduate degree, amidst great struggle, I was about to take up a teaching position in a school for a meagre salary. I needed to support my family, as we were facing a financial crisis. Completing my Bachelor’s degree itself was a Herculean task, though my dream then was to further pursue my postgraduate studies.

If you cannot enjoy the journey (learning), you can never enjoy the destination (life)! I found this real enjoyment through Nia, an abode, where my hopes turned into reality. I got monetary support from Nia and that’s the sole reason that I completed my postgraduate degree with a gold medal from Madurai Kamaraj University. A prestigious institution in South India.

Born into a middle class family, it’s still seen as annoying for a girl to aim big. Nia helps foster a sense of security for girl students to fulfil their dreams. I credit Nia for offering a helping hand to girl students struggling to continue their studies due to a lack of financial support. Their service is, of course, incredible. I am now working as a lecturer through which, I can satiate not only my passion, but can also support my family financially as well. My sincerest thanks to Nia and I will solicit the support of Nia to our students forever.

Thank You.
