  • Details about donations you make to us

  • Details about events that you register for, or attend

The legal basis that Nia relies on will depend upon the circumstances in which we collect and use your personal information. In almost all cases, our processing of your personal information will fall into one of the following categories:

  • Where it is in our legitimate interests to contact you in order to raise funds and achieve our objectives. In doing this, we have determined that such processing is not likely to be too intrusive, or excessively infringe on your rights and freedom.

For example, if you sign up to be our fundraising effort, we rely on your consent to send you requests for a donation and we rely on our legitimate interests to call you about getting more involved in our work.

  • Administering and managing your donation

  • Manage your direct marketing and communication preferences

  • Ask for your financial support, such as making a donation to our latest appeal.

  • Keep a history of your support, including donations you have given and actions you have taken.

  • Target online advertising effectively, reaching people who share similar interests and characteristics to our supporters.

  • Create a record of your interests, preferences, and level of potential engagement or donation.

  • Organize and administer attendance at our fundraising events.

How we will contact you

Nia contacts/communicated with  you through the email address you provide when you subscribe to our offerings or through Social media posts if you choose to follow our social pages on LinkedIn and Instagram

Who might we share your Personal Information with

We do not sell your Personal Information to third parties. We may nonetheless share your Personal Information with third parties who provide services to us (or on our behalf). We may also share your information:

  • with other niapower.org users when you submit a video, provide feedback, post questions, and comments, or create a profile on the site;

  • as required by law and when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights or those of third parties, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or comply with a court order or other legal process;

In addition, we may share aggregate niapower.org usage information that does not identify individual users with third parties for any reason, including for marketing or analytical purposes.

We keep your Personal Information safe

We take reasonable and appropriate precautions to protect Personal Information. While we endeavor to protect the security and integrity of sensitive Personal Information collected via this Website, due to the inherent nature of the Internet as an open global communications vehicle, we cannot guarantee that any information, during transmission through the Internet or while stored on our system or otherwise in our care, will be absolutely safe from intrusion by others, such as hackers.  

In the event that we are required by law to inform you of any unauthorized access to your personal information, we may choose to notify you electronically, in writing, or by telephone at our sole discretion.

If we transfer your Personal Information to a country outside the European Economic Area (“EEA”), we will provide appropriate safeguards by applying one of the following transfer solutions:

Either, the receiving party of the Personal Data is located in a country recognized by the European Commission as offering an adequate level of data protection as set out by the European Commission pursuant to the General Data Protection Regulation; or

The receiving party of the Personal Information has agreed to process this Personal Information in accordance with the “Standard Contractual Clauses” for data controllers or data processors approved by the European Commission.

Transfer of Personal Information

The receiving party of the Personal Information is located in a country recognized by the European Commission as offering an adequate level of data protection as set out by the European Commission pursuant to the General Data Protection Regulation (including certification to the Privacy Shield for entities located in the US); or

The receiving party of the Personal Information has agreed to process this Personal Information in accordance with the “Standard Contractual Clauses” for data controllers or data processors approved by the European Commission.

Data Retention and Destruction

We store your Personal Data for as long as it is necessary to provide our services to you and others and so long as we are legally required to do so. Personal Information associated with your account will be kept until your account is deleted, unless we no longer need the data to provide services, or until any legal requirements to keep it no longer exist. When we no longer need Personal Data, we securely delete and destroy it.

Rights You May Have

You may exercise certain rights regarding the Personal Information processed by Nia:

In particular, you have the right to do the following:

  • Withdraw your consent at any time, where you have previously given your consent to the processing of your Personal Information

  • Object to processing of your Personal Information if the processing is carried out on a legal basis other than consent.

  • Access your Data, obtain disclosure regarding certain aspects of the processing, and obtain a copy of the Personal Information undergoing processing.

  • Verify and seek rectification of your Personal Information

  • Restrict the processing of your Personal Information under certain circumstances…

  • Have your Personal Information deleted or otherwise removed, under certain circumstances.

  • Receive your Personal Information and have it transferred to another controller.

  • Lodge a complaint. You have the right to bring a claim before their competent data protection authority
