Ranjitha

Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it. Ranjitha, IT Professional at a Pvt. IT Company in Chennai, India.

When Ranjitha left school after her higher secondary education her parents were pleased that she would soon find a job to supplement the family income. Her father approached a local supermarket to find Ranjitha a job as a cashier but this was not her ambition , rather she wanted to carry on studying with the aim of getting as good a job as possible.

She is the eldest child of the family of four - father, mother and a younger brother who was in the 10th standard. Her neo-literate mother was therefore interested in Ranjitha getting married within the next two years, to avoid giving too much of dowry. She is the only girl amongst her relatives to have completed her plus two, normally girls drop out after 8th or 10th standard and go to work or are quickly married. Therefore her daily wage cooli father found it too much to think of a girl, earning for the rest of her family.

“Once I found that my whole family was working against me, that my parents were not listening, and ignoring me, I eventually lost my confidence. I felt that I was good for nothing, that no one loved me and that my parents didn't feel good about me at all. Fortunately my brother fought for me by saying that he would go to work and support my family and allow me to continue my studies. I took this opportunity and told my parents that I would work in part-time employment and earn for my studies. They could say nothing!”

Ranjitha approached Turning Point Educational Trust to find a part-time job within the organization after her higher secondary to raise some sponsorship for her college fees. When they realized her ambitions and potential, Turning Point brought her to Ms.Soundarya, the Founder of Shishu Shakthi to help raise funds and help Ranjitha continue her studies. With the support of Nia she got the financial support she was looking for . leading to Ranjitha joining T.S. Narayanaswamy College of Arts and Science to pursue Bachelor of Arts in Computer Applications.

Ranjitha continued on to become a Facilitator at the Children’s Motivation and Learning Center at Ezhil Nagar, Chennai, India. This has given her confidence a big boost and the prospects to learn more and gain several opportunities to update her skills. She’s explored many new places and opened the door to a job in an IT based company after graduating.

Presently, Ranjitha works at Armsoftech Private Limited working on behalf of Karur Vysya Bank and earns a good take-home salary. Additionally she has managed to save enough to be able to supplement her family's income it also allowed her to repay the opportunities afforded by her younger brother who, thanks to Ranjitha, is now able to continue with his degree at the D.B.Jain College of Arts and Science.
